Backup & transfer

Everything lives in this browser. Export regularly — clearing site data wipes it.

Export full backup (.json)

Every field plus the chart images, embedded. This is the file you re-import to restore or move to another device.

Import / merge

Reads a PipNotes .json file and merges it. New trades are added, and anything edited more recently elsewhere wins. Safe to run repeatedly, in both directions.

Export sync file

Same data, always named pipnotes-sync.json so it overwrites cleanly in a cloud folder. See “Using two devices” below.

One row per trade, every column. Images aren't included — this is the file for Excel or Sheets analysis.

What raises a warning

The card always lists the whole day at every impact level. This only controls which releases set News Proximity and turn the card amber or red.

Weekly R target

Shown as a progress bar on the Trades page. A 2% week at 0.5% risk works out to +4R. Set to 0 to hide it.

Pip size per pair

Deviation scoring is measured in pips, and a pip differs on every instrument. Applied automatically from the pair on each trade. Blank uses the built-in default.

▶Where your data lives—
PipNotes stores trades in this browser's IndexedDB, on this device. Nothing is uploaded anywhere — hosting it on Netlify does not change that. A different browser, or a cleared cache, means a different and empty journal.
Using two devices. There's no account and no server, so devices don't talk to each other on their own. Keep one pipnotes-sync.json in a cloud folder: import it before you log, export it back when you finish. The merge resolves by last edit, so the file travels either way without losing anything. Import before you log, not after — otherwise both devices edit the same trade and the older edit is dropped.
On iPhone, add this to your home screen. Safari deletes stored data for ordinary websites after about a week of not opening them. Adding PipNotes to your home screen exempts it.
